The standard, or “native” resolution of our projectors is XGA, or 1024x768. Please make sure that the resolution of the attached laptop computer matches the native resolution of the projector. This is done, on IBM compatible computers, by accessing the “display” settings in the “control panel” of your computer and setting the “screen area” to 1024x768. From the “Start” menu go to “settings”, then to “control panel”, to “display” and to “settings.”

On Mac computers this is checked by accessing the Monitor Settings.

Most projectors will display lower and higher resolution settings than their native resolution by scaling the image, but matching them will provide you with the best image.

The next step is connecting the computer to the projector using the 15-pin (VGA) cable. This should be done before the laptop is powered on, as many laptop computers automatically detect the projector as an external monitor during the laptop’s start-up sequence. If the image still does not display on the projector, check to make sure the correct input on the projector is selected. The VGA cable should be connected to the “Computer 1” or “Computer 2”, input of the projector. To change the input displayed on the projector, press the “input” button, located on the top of the projector, or on the remote control until the correct input shows on the screen. If the image is still not present you will need to activate the external VGA output on your laptop. Hold down your function key (Fn), and the “F” Key that corresponds to your external VGA port until the image appears. This key varies depending on the Manufacturer, but it should have a picture of 2 monitors or say “CRT/LCD”. This sequence will toggle your laptop computer from displaying only to your laptop screen, only to the external display or to both at once, which is the preferred setting. Please refer to your computer’s operation manual to find out which key, or how to turn on the “External Display” function.
